pharmacology/toxicology


The section of Pharmacology and Toxicology provides inpatient diagnostic and therapeutic care for children and adults with poisonings of all kinds, including:

  • Scorpion sting
  • Snakebite
  • Spider bite
  • Drug overdose
  • Interpretation of blood and urine toxicology tests
  • Accidental exposure to household or workplace poisons

Section faculty and staff provide consultative support at University Medical Center and through the Arizona Poison and Drug Information Center (APDIC). APDIC is a 24-hour poison emergency telephone service available to the public and to medical professionals throughout the state of Arizona.

Section research interests include development of new and improved antivenoms for treatment of snakebite, spider bite and scorpion sting.
