Resident activities and outreach

 

Community Outreach:

Common Unity
Residential program for formerly homeless teen moms. Moms receive help in finishing school, finding a job, etc. Pediatric residents provide monthly talks on different pediatric topics.

Annual Resident Vs. Attendings Basketball Game
Raises money for Andrea’s Closet, a program that provides games and toys for children in the hospital.

Resident Get-togethers:

Annual Chili and Caroling Party
Dr. Elliott (Pediatric Infectious Disease) and his family host a party each year, complete with home-brewed holiday beer, homemade chili, cookies and door-to-door caroling in the neighborhood.

Annual Residents Night Out

Attending pediatric faculty provide all in-and-outpatient care to allow all residents to attend the event.

Annual Pediatric Faculty and Housestaff Party
Hosted by Dr. Ghishan (Department Head), this event is a chance for attendings, residents, and their significant others to relax and enjoy a delicious meal.

Resident Retreats
PL 1, 2, and 3 classes have one weekend retreat per year. Call is covered for the weekend to facilitate attendance by the entire class. The PL-1 retreat is held in a beautiful cabin on Mount Lemmon, PL-2 retreats have been at various locations throughout the state, and the PL-3 retreat is usually held on the beach at Rocky Point, Mexico.
