What's a Podcast?A podcast (aka "pedcast") is a means of distributing audio and video programs via the Internet that lets users subscribe to a number of files, also known as "feeds," and then hear or view the material at the time that they choose. A feed is usually in the MP3 audio format. You need to install a podcast program on your computer, tell it about a podcast feed you want to subscribe to, and it will check to see when new information is available. When a new show is uploaded to the web site, the pedcasting software will start downloading the MP3 file in the background to a directory. Podcasting ProgramsTo get started, you will need to install a podcasting program, a number of which are freely available for Mac, Windows, and Linux.

In order to respond to the recent challenges of modern pediatric resident education, The University of Arizona Department of Pediatrics has begun a pediatric pedcast curriculum. The initial focus of this curriculum will be on general pediatric topics relevant to the Continuity Clinic experience. As this technology evolves we anticipate including subspecialty topics as well. Please send questions or comments regarding this curriculum, such as difficulties encountered with its use or suggestions for future topics, to Dr. Tom Ball, MD, MPH, at tball@email.arizona.edu.
